For the last three Sundays, we have been hearing Jesus' farewell discourse before he ascends into heaven. This Sunday, Jesus concludes with a conversation with the Father where he petitions on behalf of his followers. In his words, Jesus' love for his disciples, then as well as now, shines forth. There is a sense that now we are all truly one with him. We are consecrated in truth, as he is consecrated as the truth.
As our Easter draws to a close, it is good to reflect on how we represent Jesus Christ to the world. We are truly the body of Christ, the presence of Christ in a world that oftentimes does not know him. Can the world recognize him in us? Since we are protected and consecrated in truth, do we venture out boldly into a hostile world bringing real peace? Do we testify to the reality of the risen Lord each day, or do we treat that reality like another story, which we recall fondly? The season of Easter may be concluding next week at Pentecost, but we are to be Easter people all year through. May the risen Lord be with us as we seek to share the good news in our daily lives with all those we meet.
