My Philosophy Teaching to me is an opportunity to share my excitement, creativity, wonder and joy for learning. As an educator I want to share my enthusiasm for learning through my creative approach to instruction. I strive to find the uniqueness of each child to better understand the challenges they face. Through assessments and observations, I can find the strengths and weaknesses in each student and create a plan that not only addresses these but motivates the student to find success. In my class there is a variety of project based learning activities that address various levels of student’s needs. My instruction includes some direct instruction, guided instruction, and self-discovery in both cooperative groups and on an individual basis when needed. I use a variety of technology and manipulatives to help in the learning process. My classroom is set up to promote a positive learning environment. I believe each child should have the freedom to express their needs and be creative. My students are encouraged to wonder and believe that they can succeed with a little hard work. Students should be set up for success in the process of being educated. I believe in promoting citizenship through various character traits where we learn to value each other, be responsible, be respectful, be honest and live our faith daily. As an educator I strive to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning. It starts with building a rapport with the family, working together to best educate the student. Helping the student understand their needs and taking ownership of their learning is an important part of the process as well. The best reward for me is knowing my students are growing academically and sharing my love of learning. I also appreciate the feedback I am shown by families.
My background Earlier in my career, I was a graphic artist for over fifteen years. I enjoyed using my God given talent of being creative on a daily basis. I then choose to stay at home with my young children for many years before returning back to work. I was able to be a parent that helped in the schools my children were in and found I had a new calling. I found an opportunity that not only uses my creativity but also give me a chance to make a difference in these young lives through education in both academics and citizenship. I graduated for the second time from Mount Mary College with a new degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I substituted for a short time before finding my calling to St. Bruno Parish School. I started in Kindergarten for three years before moving to second grade. I love second grade and the blessings I received in being part of the sacramental preparation of these young students. Currently I am teaching a split class of second and third and each day I find new challenges and even better blessings.
